In Den Switcher, the colors are what makes the piece special, despite only being two colors in the work: the radiant blue and the color of the canvas itself. At first glance, it might be difficult to make sense of the motif, but as you continue to admire the work, figures and faces suddenly appear. It is clear that the MSR FCJ uses their own drawings and cartoons as inspiration for their larger works. The swiftly made lines and unfinished drawings created in a smaller sketchbook are transferred to a larger surface, making the paintings feel alive and vivid. Mike and Faye work together as one entity while creating their works. They finish each other’s lines almost like a dot-to-dot drawing. The canvas is parted, much like MSR FCJ often collages their drawings by cutting, moving, and connecting pieces.
