Galleri Golsa is proud to present Seasons, a new exhibition by Chicago-based painter Will Gabaldón. Through four distinct landscapes, Gabaldón explores the emotional and atmospheric qualities of each season, crafting paintings that blend observation, memory, and imagination.
The sky in Summer is specifically inspired by a painting by Georgia O'Keeffe I saw at the Art Institute of Chicago last year. I loved the sunset and the tiny moon. It really worked well as a summer night type of mood. Winter is very minimal, and I see the snow paintings as heavily inspired by minimalist painters, especially Robert Ryman. It is also the same hill as Spring, though from a different perspective. Spring is really about these subtle pinkish clouds creating this sense of circular motion into the landscape. I want it to have a sense of movement and the return of life to the landscape. Lastly, Fall is more about the relationship of these two lonely trees. I loved working with the muted, warm colors and trying to give the trees a sense of personality and melancholy. I often think of objects as people or personalities. I've done that my whole life. I loved working on these as a themed series very much like Monet would with his work.
Through Seasons, Gabaldón continues his exploration of landscapes as vessels of memory and emotion while delving deeper into the cyclical nature of time and the personal connections imbued in each piece. This series builds upon his previous works by drawing more attention to the interplay between minimalism, seasonal change, and the evocative power of nature's transitions. His masterful use of color, brushwork, and form brings to life the quiet beauty of nature’s cycles, encouraging viewers to pause and connect with their own reflections on time and place. By combining art historical influences with personal vision, Gabaldón creates works that are as timeless as they are intimate.
